If you know me. Then you know that Halloween is my favorite holiday!!! FAVORITEEEEEE!!! I think my poster word for this blog is going to be trick or treat 2022!!! When we were kids, my cousins and I used to make fake body parts out of food like cooked spaghetti for brains and peeled grapes for eyeballs.
We would put everything in the bathroom without any windows, turn off the lights and then make our parents touch them and try to guess what they were. My dad was really good at “acting” grossed out and making a scene about touching real body parts. (He is cool like that).
Now that I’m a grown up I can totally up my game when it comes to gross and disgusting realistic body part food. Let’s explore my top 10 favorite things to make for Halloween Treats.
Baking and Making Yummy Halloween Treats for Spooky Celebrations

Round Mummy Version Ingredients:
1 (17.3 ounce) package frozen puff pastry (see Note)
1 tablespoon butter
1/2 cup coarsely chopped pecans

Sliced apples

Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
- Thaw puff pastry on the counter for approximately 15 to 20 minutes
- Then unfold.
- In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Saute the pecans in the butter until golden brown, approximately 5 mins.
- Add the cinnamon and stir until pecans are coated well. Set aside.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll pastry into a 14-in. square.
- Cut off corners to make a circle.
- Place Brie in the center of the pastry.
- Place the pecan mixture on top of the Brie and sprinkle the brown sugar over the mixture.
- Fold pastry over cheese, trimming as necessary, and pinch edges to seal.
- Place on a parchment lined baking sheet, seam side down.
- Roll remaining pastry into a 14-in. square.
- Cut four 1-in. strips; cut strips in half crosswise.
- Wrap strips around Brie, trimming as necessary. You don’t want to make too thick of a layer of strips or it won’t cook all the way through.
- Discard scraps.
- Brush the beaten egg over top and side of Brie.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
- For eyes, cut two circles from apple slices; place on top of Brie as eyes.
- Top each circle with a dried cranberry, raisins, or pecan pieces.
- Serve warm with apple slices and crackers.

Recipe Notes:
Puff pastry comes with 2 sheets of dough. Brie comes in either 8 ounce wheels or 16 ounce wheels. For a 16 ounce wheel you will need 2 sheets. If you use an 8 ounce wheel you will only need 1 sheet of puff pastry. Use the trimmed dough, roll it out and cut strips for the mummy. If you have too much puff pastry dough layered it won’t bake all the way through so make sure you roll it thin enough.

Gross is Great When It’s Halloween Snacks
Pumpkin Puking Guacamole
For more trick or treat 2022 fun, this one is always a crowd pleaser. You can use a pumpkin or even a yellow pepper if you’d like. I did this for a youth group event and it was a HUGE hit! I was giggling as I poured the “green vomit” through the pumpkin’s mouth. LOL
Ingredients:
3 avocados
1/2 cup red onion chopped
1 large tomato sliced
1 tsp minced garlic
1/2 bunch cilantro chopped
1 jalapeno finely chopped
1 lime’s juice
1 – 4 shakes Green Tabasco sauce
salt and pepper to taste to taste
Instructions:
Mash avocados.
Fold in all other ingredients. Mix well. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
Kitty Litter Cake – I got this recipe from allrecipes.com I have made this twice and it’s always a HUGE crowd pleaser. It’s perfect when you spend the extra money to buy the litter box and make it 100% authentic.
Ingredients:
1 (18.25 ounce) package German chocolate cake mix
1 (18.25 ounce) package white cake mix
2 (3.5 ounce) packages instant vanilla pudding mix
1 (12 ounce) package vanilla sandwich cookies
3 drops green food coloring
1 (12 ounce) package tootsie rolls
Instructions:
- Prepare cake mixes and bake according to package directions (any size pan).
- Prepare pudding according to package directions and chill until ready to assemble.
- Crumble sandwich cookies in small batches in a food processor, scraping often. Set aside all but 1/4 cup.
- To the 1/4 cup add a few drops of green food coloring and mix. When cakes are cooled to room temperature, crumble them into a large bowl.
- Toss with 1/2 of the remaining cookie crumbs, and the chilled pudding. You probably won’t need all of the pudding, you want the cake to be just moist, not soggy.
- Line the kitty litter box with the kitty litter liner. Put the cake mixture into the box.
- Put half of the unwrapped tootsie rolls in a microwave safe dish and heat until softened. Shape the ends so that they are no longer blunt, and curve the tootsie rolls slightly.
- Bury tootsie rolls randomly in the cake and sprinkle with half of the remaining cookie crumbs.

Ingredients:
9 cups Rice Chex or Corn Chex cereal
2 cups dark chocolate morsels, divided
1/2 cup smooth peanut butter
1/4 cup butter
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 cups powdered sugar (confectioner’s sugar) – or 1 cup if making the Tuxedo Chex Mix option!
Edible candy eyeballs
“Tuxedo Chex Mix” Optional Ingredients:
14-ounce bar baking chocolate, finely grated (or 1 cup American Heritage Chocolate)
10 Oreo cookies, quartered
MAKE THIS MIX 2 WAYS: Classic Halloween Muddy Buddies: An all-white Chex mix with powdered sugar, chocolate morsels and candy yes. It’s wickedly good!
Tuxedo Halloween Chex Mix: A more prominent black/white snack. It features half the mix with finely-grated chocolate and Oreos. Visually stunning, it’s the perfect treat to satisfy deep chocolate cravings.
Instructions:
- Measure out the cereal. Add it to a large wide bowl. Set it aside.
- Add butter, peanut butter and chocolate chips to a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on high for 1 minute. Stir then Microwave for 30 to 60 seconds more, or until the mixture can be stirred smooth.
3. Drizzle vanilla over the mixture. Stir until incorporated.
4. Pour the melted chocolate mixture over the Chex cereal. With a spatula, gently fold and stir it in. All pieces should be evenly coated. Divide coated cereal between 2 zip-top bags (gallon size).
5. If making tuxedo snack mix, add powdered sugar to just one of the two bags. Add finely-grated chocolate to the second bag. Gently shake the bags until all pieces are evenly coated. Over the sink, transfer coated pieces to a colander. Shake off excess powder.
6. For the bottom layer, add half the mix to a wide serving bowl. For a tuxedo look, keep chocolate-coated pieces and powdered-sugar pieces on separate sides of the bowl.
7. Add chopped Oreos. Sprinkle it with dark chocolate morsels and candy eyeballs.
8. Add remaining mix to the bowl. Sprinkle the top with more chocolate morsels and spooky candy eyes.
9. For an elegant tuxedo snack mix, add chopped Oreos straight down the middle.
Substitution List:
- Nut-free substitutes for peanut butter: With the closest taste and texture to peanut butter, Sun Butter (natural sunflower butter) and Biscoff Cookie Butter spread are delicious swaps!
- Chex Cereal: Kellogg’s Crispix cereal.
- Butter: Margarine.
- Dark Chocolate Morsels: Semi-sweet chocolate chips or milk chocolate chips.
- Grated Chocolate: Brownie mix.
- Oreo Cookies: Chocolate wafers.

Roasted Pumpkin Seeds – this will be one of the first things I make for my trick or treat 2022 festivities! What else am I going to do with all the seeds I took out for my vomiting guacamole pumpkins?

Witch Finger Cookies – OMG y’all I was “today days old” when I found this recipe and I cannot wait to do this for my trick or treat 2022 party! They may be a little labor-intensive but they look like they’re totally worth it!
Ingredients:
1 cup unsalted butter softened
1 cup powdered sugar confectionery
1 egg
1 teaspoon Almond extract
1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon salt, if using salted butter
3/4 cup whole blanched almonds
green food coloring few drops
1 tube red decorator gel
Instructions:
- In a bowl, beat together butter, sugar, egg, almond and vanilla extract; beat in flour, baking powder and salt. Add a few drops of green food coloring until it reaches your desired green. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- Roll heaping tablespoons of dough into finger shape for each cookie. Press almond firmly into one end for the nail. Squeeze in the center to create knuckle shape; using a paring knife or toothpick, make several places to form knuckles.
- Place on lightly greased baking sheets or parchment lined baking sheets. Bake in a 325 degree oven for 20-25 minutes or until pale golden. Let cool for 3 minutes.
- Lift up almond; squeeze red decorator gel onto nail bed and press almond back into place, so gel oozes out from underneath. Let cool. Makes about 28 large cigar size cookies. If you only use 1 teaspoon of dough, you will get about 4 dozen cookies.
Pumpkin Pie Energy Bites – I’m a huge fan of on- the- go, quick protein or energy snacks. So these are great because they will be perfect for me to pop in my mouth right before my trick-or-treat 2022 festivities begin and give me enough fuel to keep going in case I forget to eat. Which I do often. LOL
Ingredients:
1 cup pitted Mejool dates about 8 ounces or 10-12 large dates
1 cup old fashioned rolled or quick oats gluten free if needed
1/4 cup toasted pecan halves
1/4 cup pumpkin puree
1 tablespoon pure maple syrup plus additional 1-3 teaspoons as desired
1 tablespoon chia seeds or ground flaxseed meal
2 1/4 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice or swap: 1 1/4 teaspoons ground cinnamon, ½
teaspoon ground ginger, 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg, and 1/8 teaspoon cloves
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon maple flavor or maple extract optional but delicious—I also love it in
these pumpkin scones
1/8 teaspoon kosher salt
Instructions:
- If the dates are dry or hard, let soak in hot water for 10 minutes, then drain and pat dry.
- Transfer the dates to a food processor fitted with a steel blade. Pulse until the dates are in small pieces and form a sticky ball.
- Add the oats, pecans, pumpkin, 1 tablespoon maple syrup, chia seeds, pumpkin pie spice, vanilla extract, maple extract (if using), and salt. Pulse to combine. The oats and nuts should be in small pieces of roughly the same size, but not completely smooth. Taste and add 1-3 teaspoons additional maple syrup if you desire a sweeter mixture.
4. Transfer the mixture to a bowl, then cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. With a spoon or cookie scoop, scoop the mixture then roll it into balls. Transfer to an airtight container and store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks or freeze for up to 2 months. If the balls are frozen, there is no need to let them thaw—just eat immediately, or let them sit a few minutes to warm up if desired.
Notes:
These Pumpkin Energy Balls can be kept in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks or frozen for up to 2 months. You can eat the balls immediately from the freezer, or let them warm up a bit if you prefer.
As you can see I take my trick or treat 2022 festivities very seriously! Have fun with some of these recipes and if you make any of them send me a picture and tag me on my socials! I’d love to see what kinds of fun creations you have for the holiday as well!
